Position Description

Experienced Communications & PR Director to lead and manage EqualityMD’s brand and progressive messaging reaching the media.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Communications and Public Relations will work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement communication strategies to broaden the impact of EqualityMD services and oversee organizational messaging and constituent services.

Responsibilities

Communications Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance EqualityMD’s brand identity, broaden awareness of its services and increase its visibility throughout the LGBTQ+ community and key stakeholder audiences.
  • Create marketing/public relations strategies that will allow EqualityMD’s leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level, external audiences, including the media and key influencers.
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the company. Work with leadership team members and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities, threats and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to address needs as they arise.
  • Serve as a communications adviser to leadership.

Communications Operations

  • Oversee development of all EqualityMD (including EqualityMD Media—EqualityMD’s media arm) print communications including annual reports, marketing collateral materials and electronic communications; manage relationships with associated vendors.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or otherwise pertain to and/or impact the organization in any manner.
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities including, but not limited to, preparing talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materials as needed.
  • Actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage of special events, public announcements and other projects pertaining to the company.

Business Development Support

  • Serve as the main point of contact for any and all legislative, lobbyist and/or other politically related developments that may impact the company.
  • Connect potential customers and third-party resellers within the public sector to EqualityMD.
  • Manage legislative and lobbying outreach efforts, which will be handed off and/or co-managed with the senior team members and/or sales/support staff.
  • Manage all these activities within Hubspot.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in communications, media outreach and/or public relations.
  • Communications or equivalent degree mandatory; related advanced degrees may count towards experience.
  • Experience as a journalist and/or working with journalists (preferred).
  • Active contacts with journalists, media and/or media outlets (preferred).
  • Experience in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, GDPR tech, agriculture, alcohol, or energy (preferred).
  • Experience in government relations, public policy and legislative initiatives (preferred).
  • Experience in supervising and training of staff.
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization.

Compensation

$65,000-$75,000 base salary, plus performance-based options and/or bonuses

 Estimated Yearly Earnings: $90,000-95,000
